What Is TMJ Massage?
TMJ massage focuses on the muscles that help control the jaw as well as surrounding areas that may contribute to jaw tension, including the face, head, neck, and shoulders.
External work is performed on the outside of the face and jaw and may include the temples, cheeks, jawline, neck, and surrounding muscles. This allows us to address muscular tension around the jaw while also working on areas that may be contributing to how the jaw feels.
Intraoral work allows me to access certain jaw muscles from inside the mouth that are difficult to reach externally. While wearing gloves, gentle and focused pressure is applied to specific muscles inside the cheek and jaw.
Intraoral work is always performed with your consent and can be modified or stopped at any time. Not every session requires intraoral work—the techniques used are based on your symptoms, comfort level, and goals.

Not sure which to choose?
For most first-time TMJ clients, the 60-minute TMJ Reset provides enough time to assess your concerns and work more comprehensively without rushing.
Your session will begin with a brief conversation about what you're experiencing and what you'd like to address. From there, we'll focus on the muscles of the jaw, face, head, neck, and shoulders as appropriate.
Intraoral work may be included when appropriate and with your consent. Throughout the session, techniques and pressure can be adjusted based on your comfort.
Before you leave, we'll discuss what we found and, when appropriate, simple self-care recommendations you can use between appointments.
That's much more website-ready.
FAQ
Intraoral massage should not be sharply painful. Some areas may feel tender or sensitive, especially when the jaw muscles are already tight. Pressure is adjusted to your comfort level, and you can ask to modify or stop any technique at any time.
No. Intraoral massage is completely optional and is only performed with your consent. External techniques can still be used to work with the muscles of the jaw, face, head, neck, and shoulders.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the neck and shoulders. You remain clothed during TMJ-focused work, although massage techniques involving the neck, shoulders, or upper back may require adjusting clothing or draping as appropriate.
For most first-time clients, the 60-minute TMJ Reset is a good place to start. It provides enough time to discuss what you're experiencing and work with the jaw and face as well as related tension through the neck and shoulders. The 30-minute session is better for focused work, while the 90-minute session allows for more comprehensive work beyond the jaw.
No. TMJ massage isn't a cure for temporomandibular disorders and doesn't replace evaluation or treatment from a dentist, physician, physical therapist, or other qualified healthcare provider when appropriate. Massage focuses on the muscular component and may help reduce tension and improve comfort for some clients.
